Essential Tips For Your Backroll Progression
Hey guys, Blake here and today we are going to level you up in the sport of kiteboarding. I'd say that backroll's are one of the biggest game changers in progression after learning to jump. It's so much fun and opens up a whole new world of possibilities. The things to know are: 1. Kite positioning Keep the kite around 45 degrees and don't send past 12 o clock. 2. Low to moderate speed Take it easy and don't take too much speed. It's much easier to learn and the falls will be a lot softer if you take it slow and stay under control. Going fast will make things harder and rip you off your edge. 3. Pop into the wind A quarter of the rotation is done before you even leave the water. Popping into the wind gives you lift from the kite and sends you into the roll. Lean back, twist into the wind and bring your knee to your chest as you pop off the water. 4. Spot your landing As you are coming around, make sure to spot your landing down wind of you. This will keep you rotating and allow you to see whether or not you'll make it. 5. Redirect the kite Once you spot your landing, you're going to pull in on your front hand so that the kite pulls you into your landing. If you keep the kite high, it will drop you underneath it or swing you under the kite. 6. Unwind bar Don't panic, once you get the rotation around the steering lines will be twisted. Ride out and get under control, put the kite at 45 and simply let go or spin it so that it untwists. Have fun and enjoy the ride!
