Waves in the Caribbean & BTS Photoshoot in Mayreau
In this episode, pro kiteboarder Reno Romeu joins Jeremie Tronet for a trip to Palm Island—located just about one mile from the JT Pro Center on Union Island, a spot well known for its great wave conditions. The journey also includes a visit to Mayreau, another island in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where they meet up with photographer Toby Bromwich for an afternoon photoshoot. Palm Island is the ideal destination for wave lovers—perfect for surfing, kiteboarding, wing foiling, windsurfing, and other wave sports. Gear can be set up at the JT Pro Center, from where it's an easy kite ride across to Palm Island and back. For less experienced riders or those who prefer extra safety, the JT Pro Center staff can provide a support dinghy for assistance out on the water. The waves are fun, and the wind direction is side-shore—lining up perfectly with the wave sets. When the swell hits, this spot is definitely worth a session. Mayreau is another island in the Grenadines, considered by many—including Reno—to be one of the most beautiful. Kiting inside the bay is typically not allowed due to offshore winds, but for this episode, special permission was granted by the Marine Guards. Outside the bay, however, kiting is possible on the reef with onshore wind and some playful waves—ideal conditions for an enjoyable ride and a scenic shoot. Wind Season November – July Average wind: 15 – 25 knots
